Aleatoric Design

I’m a fan of what Andrew Blauvelt calls “relational design.” Not such a fan of the term, however. I’d prefer aleatoric design. There’s a nice example of the sort of work that I think this term describes well in Marc Alcock’s portfolio.

Re: Relational Design

Andrew Blauvelt recently posted a very thoughtful essay on the subject of relational design (some visual references and a more concise statement of his position are available at the Walker Art Center blog). Blauvelt frames his argument thusly:
