Rather than order beer from the bar, you are accosted by several young women dressed like go-go girls from a futuristic 60’s movie. One of them, a Tsingtao representative, looks like a Bond Girl waiting for her close-up, bottle in one hand and basket of peanuts in the other. Batting her coated eyelashes, she offers a two-for-one-special. I decline, knowing I could not be part of her target demographic.
Beijing kids love dancing and hip hop makes it easy for them. Such energy, such lack of inhibition. Arms waving, faces upturned, the crowd moving in one constant swirl. For a moment, I am disarmed and feel hopeful. I wave the Tsingtao woman back and order a round.
